Project Goals
Install piers to support a concrete block foundation measuring 25.59 ft × 25.59 ft × 6.23 ft thick. This concrete foundation is being used to support a crane for the construction of three (3) multi-story residential towers (18 to 24 stories). The piers were required as a foundation support due to the low bearing capacity of the surrounding soil and the heavy loads being transferred by the crane and the concrete block.
Specific challenges
Our advantages compared to other installation methods
Soil type: Backfill, clay, and sand with low bearing capacity
Number of people on site: 2 (1 installer + 1 welder)
Piers used: Model P4
Equipment used: ET-1 installation machine
Load to be supported by pile (bearing capacity): Service load between 205 kN (compression) and 35 kN (tension)
Torque per pier: ± 14,700 lb-ft
Engineer's guidelines: Position certain piles at a slight angle (± 5 degrees) to ensure optimal pile layout and load transfer in both compression and tension.
Depth of embedment: ± 17.39 feet from the bottom of the excavation. The piers rest on the bedrock (shale).
Details of the structure resting on the piers: Concrete block measuring 25.59 ft × 25.59 ft × 6.23 ft thick.
