Self-Build Oak Wood Carport

Techno Metal Post U.K. was approached by a self-builder along with his architect to install a foundation for his personal carport near South Nottingham, Nottinghamshire. Given the proximity of several large trees, the customer believed that helical piers would be the most appropriate solution. This method allows for the precise placement of the piers, enabling them to be installed close to trees without damaging their root system. 

This approach was also approved by local authorities, who had prohibited the use of traditional concrete trench foundations close to the trees. The piles were installed without needing any excavation. This made it an ideal solution for protecting tree roots, preserving the existing driveway, and reducing the risk of clay heave or shrinkage due to moisture fluctuations. 

A total of eleven piers, each 7 feet, were used to securely anchor the carport. The entire installation was completed in just four hours. Right after the piers were in place, the customer was able to begin building the oak wood structure.
